Vision

Lighthouse

The vision for Local Christian Hubs is rooted in our commitment to education that is deeply shaped by a Christian ethos and a recognition that the future of education is evolving. We believe it's time to reimagine the educational landscape and We see Christian hubs as lighthouses in cities.

Immanuel Online School (IOS) already offers a robust, comprehensive curriculum and a thriving online community. Our learning portal has courses with gradebooks, a tracking and detailed student portal as well as a parent portal for quick overviews that parents can access to monitor weekly progress. Hubs can be dynamic centers of learning and connection or simply places where Christian families and youth can socialise. Hubs can also serve as bridges—bringing together the flexibility of online education with the richness of in-person relationships. In some cases, they can even provide a fully integrated educational experience, grounded in Christian principles, that nurtures the whole child—academically, socially, and spiritually (e.g a Christian Learning Centre).

Three Ways a Hub Could Work

Board game night
1. Informal Local Christian Hub: If you feel God calling you to start a local hub, it could be as straightforward as creating a Facebook group and inviting others to join. Many hubs begin with something as simple as connecting Christian families and young people in the area through activities like pizza nights, board games, or study meet-ups. Who knows where God might lead you from there?
2. Centre Model: The Centre model enables students to study with Immanuel Online School and to meet in-person on a regular basis with other local students. Each hub maintains its distinct identity and character while benefiting from our web presence, along with a range of resources so that a hub can start up 'out of the box'.
3. Partnership Model: In the Partnership Model, Immanuel Online School supports your local Hub by partnering with you in delivering courses to some or all of the students who attend the hub, who might also be following different learning paths.

In each case the hub itself is locally run and independent of Immanuel Online School. Local hubs can charge fees (to fund staff that may have oversight on particular days) or be run on a volunteer basis. You may also have a hub that is just seeking to connect Christian families (not specific to home education). We would be pleased to promote this for you.

Some Key Considerations for Local Hubs

1. Integration of Christian Values IOS Hubs would be committed to Bible-based Christian values in every facet of education. Through the curriculum, interactions, and community events, students will have the opportunity to grow spiritually alongside their academic endeavours.
2. Financial Sustainability You could certainly design a local hub with financial sustainability in mind for hub co-ordinators. We have a number of ideas and a resource package that can assist with this. Some hubs run on a volunteer and informal basis and do not charge fees. Local hubs can also be exclusive to Christian families or viewed as an opportunity for outreach.
3. Diverse Models Hubs offer flexibility in their organisational models. From cooperative arrangements with local educational institutions to independent operations, there are various approaches to suit different contexts and preferences.
4. Global Reach The Hubs initiative is not limited to the UK. Hubs could be located anywhere, facilitating quality education and community engagement rooted in Christian values in a range of different locations.

With Hubs, we're not just creating learning spaces; we're looking to nurture communities, foster personal growth and inspire a new generation of lifelong learners grounded in the Christian faith. We believe they could be the future of Christian education and our prayers are with anyone pioneering in this area.

🌟 Example Local Christian Hubs

Here are a few examples of how a local hub could work in practice. We have worked with and support a number of different setups, including Christian schools.

1. Hub A – Core Live Subjects + Weekly In-Person English & Humanities

  • Live-track IOS subjects: English, Maths, Computer Science, Science & Foundations
  • In-person sessions: 2 days per week at a church building for English & Humanities
  • Additional benefits: Full access to IOS portal, seminars, IOS open access courses, community and student-led clubs, tracking, gradebooks, parent portal

2. Hub B – Single Live Subject + Flexible Self-Paced Courses

  • Live-track IOS subject: Computer Science only
  • Self-paced courses (NSW): Students can choose any number of NSW track courses, in this case Maths, English, Humanities, Science (with tutor marking). Some students do all NSW courses while others choose to do one or two.
  • In-person sessions: One live lesson per week, flexible for families
  • Benefit: High flexibility while keeping students connected through portal access and tracking

3. Hub C – Three Live Subjects + Monthly Social Activities

  • Live-track IOS subjects: Maths, Science, English
  • In-person meetups: Twice a month in a volunteer's home for a board games night, museum trips, or local outing
  • Additional: Students continue other subjects online through IOS self-paced courses
  • Goal: Blend structured learning with community-building activities

4. Hub D – Small Group, Focused Tutoring Hub

  • Subjects offered: Maths and English
  • Students: Minimum 8 to allow for bespoke timetable
  • In-person sessions: Weekly group study and discussion
  • Benefit: Personalized attention with full IOS support, portal access, and tutor feedback
  • Benefit: Connects families locally with socialisation and fitness opportunities while remaining fully part of the IOS online community

💡 Key takeaway: Each hub is flexible - some focus on multiple live lessons, some blend online and in-person, and some prioritise social and enrichment activities. All hubs have access to the IOS portal, tracking, and resources, ensuring both academic and spiritual growth.
