Home >IGCSEs

IGCSEs are the international equivalent of British General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) qualifications. IGCSEs are awarded by recognised UK exam boards including Cambridge Assessment International Education and are the most popular international qualifications in the world for 14 to 16 year olds.

IGCSE qualifications are recognised by colleges, universities and employers in the UK, USA, India, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Germany and beyond.

Immanuel Online School prepares students to take Cambridge IGCSE examinations at age 16 as private candidates in convenient local examination centres of their choice.

We offer a core of six IGCSE exam subjects plus Foundations, together with as many elective IGCSE subjects as students wish to take.

By arrangement with the school, it will be possible for students who have already made substantial progress to begin some IGCSE subjects in Year 9 to take the exams in Year 10 and reduce the number of exams taken at the end of Year 11.

The compulsory core consists of the following subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Foundations

The optional IGCSE subjects offered are:

  • Computer Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Business Studies

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the IGCSEs the same as GCSEs?

IGCSEs are regarded as the international equivalent of British GCSEs and closely reflect the content and level of GCSE qualifications. IGCSEs have been offered for 30 years, since GCSEs replaced O Levels as the general form of examination for 16 years olds in the United Kingdom (excluding Scotland). IGCSEs are currently offered by three UK based exam boards: Cambridge Assessment International Education, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA.

IGCSEs can be taken at hundreds of examination centres worldwide. Students can be assessed 100% by written exam rather than by a combination of exam and coursework and do not require practical laboratory work. For these reasons, IGCSEs are more suited to online learning than GCSEs. We take account of this exam emphasis by carefully training all students in exam techniques, model answers and revision methods to ensure they are well prepared for written exams.

Where are the exams taken and how are they arranged?

An advantage of IGCSE exams is that they can be taken in multiple locations in many countries across the world. To find out where your nearest centre for Cambridge IGCSE exams is located, please consult their website. Please note that the current arrangements anticipate parents or guardians will need to book and pay their local centre for the exams taken. Exam fees are not included in the school fees.
